Bethune Shores Dark Blue 5' x 7'3 Indoor/Outdoor Rug

While designed for the rigors of outdoor use, the Bethune Shores collection is manufactured with a weave that is comfortable underfoot for indoor living. Its coastal-inspired leaf pattern and deep blue tones provide the aesthetic of a traditional indoor rug with the added benefit of "performance" durability. It is an excellent solution for families who want a stylish look in their living room without worrying about the wear and tear of pets or children.

This rug is crafted from 100% polypropylene, a high-performance synthetic fiber specifically engineered for its resilience and moisture resistance. Unlike natural fibers that can absorb spills, polypropylene is non-absorbent and inherently resistant to mold and mildew. This makes it an ideal choice for busy entryways, kitchens, or outdoor spaces where durability and easy maintenance are essential.

Whether you are using this rug indoors or on a hard outdoor surface like a concrete patio, we highly recommend using a rug pad. A pad provides essential grip to prevent slipping, adds a layer of cushioning, and promotes airflow between the rug and the floor. This airflow is particularly important on wooden decks to prevent moisture from being trapped, which helps protect the wood from potential rot or staining.

Because this rug is made of 100% polypropylene, it is exceptionally well-suited for humid or rainy environments. The synthetic fibers do not trap moisture as easily as wool or cotton, allowing the rug to dry much faster after a downpour. To maintain its integrity in very wet climates, we recommend ensuring the rug is placed in an area with adequate drainage and occasionally lifting it to allow the surface underneath to dry completely.

Darker colors do naturally absorb more thermal energy than lighter shades. If you are placing this rug on an uncovered patio in a very hot climate, it may become warm to the touch in direct midday sun. For maximum comfort in southern climates, we recommend placing this rug in a covered or partially shaded outdoor area, such as a screened-in porch or under a pergola.

One of the primary advantages of this rug is its simple maintenance. For everyday messes, our care guidelines recommend spot cleaning with a mixture of mild detergent and water. For a deeper clean in an outdoor setting, you can gently rinse the rug with a garden hose and allow it to air dry thoroughly. Its durable construction ensures that the fibers and coastal pattern remain vibrant even after repeated cleaning.
