I didn't hear a crunching sound when resting elbows on armrests in the store, testing the display. The only thing about this unit is that it appears to have a plastic type lining in the armrests and they crunch. I'm not really happy with this purchase and will check paperwork to see if I can return it. Make sure if you sit in a display unit check for strange noises that aren't conducive to the norm.
