Because the headboard features a light beige fabric, we recommend a proactive care routine to maintain its "staycation luxury" look. Based on our furniture care expertise, you should vacuum the upholstery weekly with a soft brush attachment to remove dust and environmental allergens before they settle into the fibers. For localized cleaning, address spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth; for deeper maintenance, we recommend professional cleaning to preserve the fabric's integrity and color.

This bed is constructed with oak veneers, a material highly regarded in high-end furniture for its density and natural resistance to wear. The "natural" finish highlights the authentic woodgrain of the oak, while the straight-leg design provides a stable, balanced foundation. The headboard features a framed motif that adds structural rigidity to the upholstered section, ensuring it remains a firm and supportive surface when leaning back to read or watch television.

While the fabric upholstery offers a soft, contemporary aesthetic, pet owners should consider that fabric can trap hair more easily than solid wood. However, the Ithaca's design features straight legs that provide significant under-bed clearance, making it much easier to vacuum pet dander and hair from beneath the frame. The tight weave of this specific fabric is more resilient against snags than looser textures, though regular maintenance is recommended to keep the beige material looking pristine.

This model is designed as a panel bed, which means it requires both a mattress and a foundation (box spring) for proper support. While the frame includes supportive cross-slats, a foundation provides the necessary flat, rigid surface to prevent mattress sagging and ensure long-term comfort. Using a foundation also helps elevate the mattress to the intended height, perfectly complementing the 60-inch upholstered headboard.

In humid regions, breathability is essential for upholstered furniture. The Ithaca bed is an ideal choice for these climates because it balances a fabric headboard with a wood-veneer footboard and side rails. This hybrid construction allows for significantly more airflow around the mattress and frame compared to fully upholstered "wrap-around" beds, which can sometimes trap moisture. We recommend maintaining a consistent indoor humidity level to ensure the oak veneers and fabric remain in peak condition.

Despite its king-sized sleeping surface, the Ithaca bed is well-suited for smaller spaces due to its "modest sophistication." The headboard stands 60 inches tall, providing a dramatic focal point that draws the eye upward to create an illusion of height, while the 80.75-inch width is streamlined by a minimalist frame. The light wood finish and neutral upholstery reflect light rather than absorbing it, helping a mid-sized room feel open and airy rather than cramped.
