Kids Cottage Colors Black Twin/Full Step Loft Bed with Desk

Absolutely. This multifunctional "twin over full" loft configuration is engineered specifically for space optimization. By elevating the twin bed and integrating a full-size desk at one end, it creates a dedicated workstation without increasing the furniture footprint. This design is ideal for growing students who need a quiet place to focus on schoolwork but are living in rooms where floor space is at a premium.

The Cottage Colors collection is built for longevity, featuring pretty paneling details and high-quality brushed nickel hardware. The chic black finish is applied using a multi-step process to ensure a consistent, durable look that can withstand the daily wear and tear of an active child's room. Based on our material expertise, we recommend regular dusting with a soft cloth and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners to preserve the integrity of the finish as your child grows.

Following the safety guidelines established by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), we recommend that the top bunk be used only by children age 6 or older. This ensures the child has the coordination and spatial awareness necessary to safely navigate the elevated sleeping surface and use the integrated steps.

With a total height of 72.75 inches, this loft bed can fit in a room with standard 8-foot (96-inch) ceilings. However, to ensure your child can sit up comfortably without the risk of bumping their head, we recommend at least 30 to 36 inches of clearance between the top of the mattress and the ceiling. Given the bed's height, using a low-profile mattress (5 to 7 inches) is the best strategy to maximize headroom in rooms with 8-foot ceilings.

This bed is designed to be used with bunkie boards (sold separately) to provide a slim, sturdy foundation for the mattresses. Bunkie boards are essential for loft and bunk beds because they provide the necessary support without adding the significant height of a standard box spring. This keeps the mattress lower relative to the guardrails, maintaining the safety integrity of the top bunk.

Many parents prefer this step-loft design because the wide, flat steps provide a more stable and secure path to the top bunk compared to a vertical ladder. Beyond safety, these steps are an excellent space-saving solution; the integrated drawers utilize the structure of the staircase to provide extra storage for clothes or toys, which is especially helpful in compact urban apartments or shared bedrooms.
