The Navigation Plans II artwork captures two things the depth and blueness of the sea and the intricacy of the boats which sail it. A diagrammatical approach with its inherent transparency allows us to perceive both the water and boat at the same time, as well as portray the boat with frailty. This two-sail craft is shown in cross-section and from a bird's-eye view, almost appearing spectral, or perhaps it's the sketch of a master crafts-person planning their own voyage of discovery. This is a tribute to mankind's inventiveness and the detail required in a seemingly simple endeavor.
