We were told that we wouldn’t need a box spring because the bed had slats…but when we got the bed delivered the slats that were with it were so far apart that were our children (7 and 9) laid down the mattress bowed down between the slats and there was no support. We went and got a piece of particle board to cover them. Would otherwise recommend…with a box spring
