Nothing Like the Mattress in the Store

We bought our last mattress online, and we were looking to do it again, thinking about going with a Casper. Since Rooms to Go stocks those, we decided to go try one out in person. It was OK, but there was another mattress there we fell in love with (the Purple Restore Plus--Soft), so we bought that instead. It came wrapped up and compressed just like the memory foam mattresses you buy online. After unpacking it, we followed the written instructions, waiting 12 hours before sleeping on it (they also say to allow 72 hours for it to fully expand). But I just did the math: we've had it for 338 hours now, and it hasn't expanded yet. Unlike the floor model in the store--which was perfectly flat on top--ours is still concave, like a big, shallow bowl. For three or four inches in, the sides and corners are soft and plush, just like the mattress in the store, but the part we sleep on (the big depression that forms 85% of the surface) isn't very soft at all. It's not impossible to sleep on, but it's not the $3,600 mattress we tried at the store, either. I contacted Purple, and they're sending someone to my house this week to determine whether it's defective. If they determine that it doesn't meet the "defective" standard, we'll have to use Rooms to Go's awful "90 Night Sleep Trial" policy. Yes, I said "awful," because they don't just give you your money back; they make you wait at least 30 days (so you can make sure you REALLY hate what you bought), then they only allow you to exchange it for a different mattress that they carry, and charge you $168 for restocking and redelivery (it will be $200 for me, since I'm just outside their regular delivery area). I really regret both the purchase of this particular mattress and the fact that I bought it from Rooms to Go. Next time, it's back to Amazon, where I can at least return a defective mattress and get my money back.
